Cold-chain shipping refers to a temperature-controlled supply chain that keeps a product within a specific temperature range from the point of packaging all the way to delivery. For temperature-sensitive materials like peptides, maintaining this chain without interruption is important for preserving product integrity.
Insulated packaging combined with cold packs or dry ice is commonly used to maintain low temperatures during transit. The right combination depends on the shipping duration, external climate, and the specific temperature sensitivity of the material being shipped.
The longer a shipment spends in transit, the greater the risk of temperature excursions, particularly during warm weather or extended customs and carrier delays. Reliable carriers with predictable delivery windows help reduce this risk.
Some shipments include temperature indicators or data loggers that record conditions throughout the journey, giving both the sender and recipient a way to verify that the cold chain wasn’t broken during transport.
Upon receiving a temperature-sensitive shipment, checking that cold packs still have some cooling capacity remaining and that packaging arrived intact provides a reasonable indication that the product was kept within an appropriate temperature range throughout shipping.
