What a Certificate of Analysis Is
A certificate of analysis, commonly abbreviated as CoA, is a document summarizing the analytical testing results for a specific batch of product. For research peptides, this typically includes purity, identity confirmation, and sometimes additional testing for contaminants.
Purity Percentage
Purity is usually expressed as a percentage, derived from HPLC analysis, indicating how much of the sample consists of the target peptide versus other components or byproducts. Higher purity generally indicates fewer synthesis-related impurities.
Molecular Weight Confirmation
Mass spectrometry results confirm that the peptide’s actual molecular weight matches its theoretical, expected weight based on its amino acid sequence. A mismatch here would suggest an error in synthesis or an incorrect product.
